George Bernard Shaw wrote “St. Joan” in 1923, three years after the Roman Catholic church canonized Joan of Arc, and 492 years after the heroine of Orleans was burned at the stake by an English Court in Normandy.  Shaw based his play on the unusually well-documented historic transcripts of the trial of Joan of Arc. He said in his preface that “there are no villains in the piece” and that “is what men and women do with good intentions… that concern us.”

Madison’s Young Shakespeare Players has mounted their own production of Saint Joan, which runs through June 30th. Young Shakespeare Players administrator Jacob Logan Baer, director Elliott Puckette, and members of the cast of “St. Joan” join Eight O’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing in the studio.
